The European Union has banned the import of betel leaf from Bangladesh, as reported in the dailies on December 13.This matter needs to be followed up for our personal health protection, as the leaf was found to be contaminated with hurmful bacteria.Our health ministry should take it up and find out what it is and how betel leaf can be made safe for chewing.
